Ricky Venter grew up on the wrong side of the proverbial tracks in apartheid South Africa. When his dad died at the age of 10 months his mom had a miraculous encounter with the Lord that led to the whole family being saved. He grew up in church and started leading worship at the age of 13 but after his sister was publicly disciplined in a legalistic church he walked away from his beliefs and spent years experimenting with what the world had to offer.
His prodigal experience ended when the Lord encountered him during a particularly extreme evening of partying. This encounter started a miraculous road to restoration. In the time after his return to the Lord, God has used him to lead a dance music band called UWJ(Useless Without Jesus) leading hundreds of school children and young people to the Lord using hip hop and dance music as a tool.
Ricky is married to Natalia and they have 4 beautiful children. They are now pastoring a Vineyard church in Brussels and we are looking forward to have Ricky visit us again this year with a team of leaders from his church.
Road to Recovery
When the 12 step program was formed in the 1930´s it was born out of a sanctification renewal movement called “The Oxford Groups”. The Bible is full of teaching and encouragement for recovery. The Gospel itself is God’s own grand recovery initiative. Through Jesus as our “higher power” (12-step language), we are recovered and reconciled with God, with others and with ourselves.
During this morning session we will be hearing several testimonies and we will celebrate genuine recovery in real people’s lives. This will be a “team session” so we are showing the logo for Celebrate Recovery instead of an individual´s face. The team is led by Torbjörn Freij who is the national director for Celebrate Recovery Sweden.
